Job
Responsibilities:
Perform functions to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operation of the paper mill, monitor staff and identify and resolve operating and equipment issues guided by precedent and working within the limits of established policies.
Continuously supports Sofidel's Employee Personal Practice Policy.
Ensure all operations are completed in a safe manner and within a harmonious operating environment, address personnel problems to maintain an effective working environment, and direct crew as required.
Work from written and verbal instructions as well as production schedule.
Monitor the operation of the paper mill, utilize computer systems to interpret mill activity, and troubleshoot accordingly.
Utilize visual, auditory, and olfactory senses to examine equipment and identify potential problems.
Check operation through observation of showers, tensions, chemical levels, mixtures, and flow to ensure proper operation and quality of product.
Collaborate with mechanics, technicians, and supervision as necessary to resolve operational issues.
Oversee stock preparation activities, ensuring soft and hardwood chest levels remain appropriate for designated product runs.
Monitor operation of all phases of mill operation and provide direction to crew as required to bring the machine online and to ensure optimal operation.
Identify and report on operating anomalies and inefficiencies.
Calculate process speeds and product levels, and adjust as needed to maximize quality production.
Clean and service the machine, and coordinate with the crew to perform service functions on the machine.
Conduct prescribed tests to ensure the quality of products.
Document test results, and determine appropriate corrective action.
Inform the supervisor if paper quality falls outside established quality standards.
May prepare rolls for removal from the mill; remove excess paper from the roll surface.
Coordinate with the crew to direct jumbo rolls from the paper machine to the rewinder or jumbo roll storage.
Perform first-level maintenance on machines as necessary to ensure optimal machine operation.
Participate in process improvement efforts, identify inefficiencies and design flaws, and recommend improvements.
Work with outside contractors on special projects, machining work, or repairs.
Assist with housekeeping duties and maintain the organization and cleanliness of the facility.
Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional materials and supplies.
Maintain a safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Support quality, housekeeping, and sanitation standards as well as assuring customer satisfaction Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain a specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
Support Sofidel America's Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary, and hygienically sound workplace.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, or one (1) to three (3) years of related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure and quality manuals.
Must have a lift certification as well as overhead crane training.
Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks as needed with strong time-management skills.
