The PPG Circleville, Ohio Plant is the company's center for resin production. Our sophisticated polymer resins are used in PPG paint-making plants from North America to China and are compounded into an assortment of finishes serving different markets, but primarily the automotive market.
Key Responsibilities
The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer's prime responsibility is to drive reliability improvements and provide technical expertise for the Maintenance Department. For reliability, the job includes overseeing Process Safety Management mechanical integrity continuous improvement, inspections and corrective actions. The PSM mechanical integrity program will also be applied in the normal business as applicable. Continuous improvement for reliability is developing and providing training for mechanics, improving the CMMS system, managing critical spares, developing schedules for dated equipment replacement, and implementing equipment improvements and programs for equipment improvement. These reliability efforts all lead to reducing unplanned downtime, improving normal operation uptime, and reducing SSPL due to equipment failure.
The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer coordinates large projects and planned shutdowns, and advises and assists Maintenance Supervisors. S/he organizes, assigns, expedites and oversees the implementation of preventive maintenance plans, emergency repairs, and manages spare parts for Stores. S/he is responsible for maintaining plant utilities, setting priorities for maintenance needs and priorities for plant shutdowns. S/he coordinates with Operations Planning and the Maintenance Planner the scheduling of projects and shutdowns to fit the sequence of downtime, materials, contractors, and workforce requirements. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting of mechanical equipment (vessels, pumps, piping, valves, compressors, etc.) and electrical power distribution equipment. The Maintenance Engineer must maintain frequent communication with all departments to coordinate maintenance activities during major shutdowns or critical breakdowns.
The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer must be able to function as a Project Engineer and complete projects mostly related to maintenance, procuring project estimates, drafting capital or large expense requests including project execution from conception to implementation.
This position serves as a relief supervisor for the Maintenance Supervisors, periodically supervising crews on weekends and as needed on projects. The incumbent must complete all safety meetings and training requirements as outlined by plant standards. The Maintenance Engineer must be available during off hours to support the overall plant operations. S/he is responsible for compliance to all PSM requirements with respect to maintenance and utility operations.
The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer supervises and directs activities of outside contract personnel to ensure that all plant policies are adhered to and all work is completed within the required scope. S/he must monitor and coordinate maintenance trainee training for hourly employees and manage the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS - Maximo), assets, preventive maintenance and relevant work order history.
Experience and Education
A bachelors degree in engineering or engineering technology and 5 years experience in a maintenance responsibility; preferably in chemical manufacturing environment.
Experience in a resin manufacturing facility is desirable.
Functional and Technical Skills
This position requires leadership and organizational skills to organize and continuously develop the maintenance organization with focus on reliability. S/he needs to be versed in the fundamental mechanics of rotating equipment (pumps, agitators, compressors, etc.) and stationary equipment (process piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and heat exchangers).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
